End Citizens United to Focus on 2018 Congressional Seats in California.

There is a changing of the guard in Washington D.C. as Donald Trump continues his reign as one of the most destructive forces in the history of the Presidency. The Trump administration has leaned into and profited directly from the 2010 Supreme Court ruling on Citizens United, a conservative group that argued for loosened restrictions surrounding campaign financial contributions. In the intervening years since that monumental decision, you can draw a direct line between the influx of dark money into politics and the rise of dangerous candidates like Trump. There is a political action committee that was created in 2015 that has been doing their best to fight this rise of dangerous money in politics and their name is also their mission statement: End Citizens United. End Citizens United is making it their mission to fight back against the rising tide of dark money by supporting legislators during the important 2018 midterm congressional elections.

End Citizens United is being led by Tiffany Muller, the president at the PAC. Muller has made major headway over her two years of leadership by spreading the word and organizing grassroots support for the mission of ending the dangerous Citizens United decision. Now, with the 2018 congressional elections looming, End Citizens United is mobilizing for an important year. In order to amend the Citizens United decision, there needs to be brave legislators in the House that are willing to introduce legislation to bring about change. That is why End Citizens United will be targeting four important California House seats belong to: Dana Rohrabacher (Costa Mesa), Darrell Issa (Vista), Duncan Hunter (Alpine), and Mimi Walters (Irvine).

Last year during the 2016 Presidential Election, End Citizens United was active in their support for progressive legislators that were willing to champion campaign finance reform. The PAC put nearly $25 million into their support for a variety of different legislators and that will probably be the goal once again in 2018. End Citizens United has already raised close to $12 million as of October 30th, according to reports released by the Federal Exchange Commissions. While End Citizens United has not committed that money to congressional support, it shows that End Citizens United is already raising serious cash and that people are responding to their message.

The rise of Donald Trump and the corresponding chaos that has ensued in Washington D.C. cannot be understated, particularly when it comes to the future of the United States as a nation. When companies can pour money into the government in order to purchase their own legislators, it creates the fundamental problem that American voters are being completely ignored. If American voters want to find power at the ballot box once again, they’ll show up in droves in support of candidates willing to champion campaign finance reform such as End Citizens United.

End Citizens United Turns Attention to Senate Endorsments

The 2016 Presidential Election is likely to go down in the history books as one of the most bizarre moments in American history. While it was fun for awhile to laugh and mock the ascension of Donald Trump into a political mainstay, his actual inauguration cast a new shadow over the United States. Problems in the United States have since been more pronounced under the disastrous and ill-prepared Trump regime. Now, more than ever, groups like End Citizens United are going to be relied upon to fight the good fight in order to quell Washington’s current quagmire.

End Citizens United was established with the sole intent of bringing about legislative change to the highest levels of the government in order to get dark money out of politics. End Citizens United is focused entirely on special interests and dark money and how it influences the government. The term most commonly heard on the campaign trail is ‘Campaign Finance Reform’. Campaign finance reform is absolutely imperative to the health of the United States in the longterm as well as the health of the elections coming up in 2017 and 2018.

Lobbyists were handed the keys to the city in 2010 when the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the conservative group Citizens United. This group argued that corporations should be treated like people and that their campaign contributions should be an extension of their free speech as citizens. This was obviously a transparent attempt by Citizens United to allow billionaires and millionaires to legally influence legislators in office. Despite this relative transparency, which is ironic considering that their goal is to undermine United States democracy, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the decision.

End Citizens United is led by PAC President Tiffany Muller. Over the past year, the political action committee has seen renewed vigor in terms of support from people all around the country. The United States is clearly rejecting what Donald Trump stands for and it has resulted in a huge boost in terms of donations and grassroots support. In order to harness this recent energy, the team at End Citizens United is focusing on endorsing legislators that are running for office in 2017 and 2018. Their goal is to help champions of campaign finance reform get into office so that they have the potential to introduce legislation that can help repeal the Citizens United decision.

Most recently the team at End Citizens United endorsed KyrstenSinema for US Senate in Arizona. Sinema is a United States Congresswoman who has fought her entire career against the powers of Big Money and special interests. Sinema would be a champion in the fight against political corruption which makes her endorsement from ECU all the more important.
